  27. From Arakere Jayaram, Columnist, Bangalore.

You have omitted the name of K.T.Bashyam, foremost Congress leader and freedom fighter of erstwhile Mysore. He was a minister after Independence and was Chairman of the Mysore Legislative Council. He should have become Mysore’s first chief minister. But it was not to be. Another surprise omission is that one of the giants of Kannada literature Masti Venkatesha Iyengar, who had won the prestigious Jnanapith Award. He was also an administrator who belonged to the Mysore Civil Service. The first Dewan of Mysore after the “Rendition” of Mysore, by Viceroy Ripon in 1881 , Chettipunyam Rangacharlu set up Asia’s first representative body, the Mysore Representative Assembly in the same year ! M.A.Sreenivasan was an ace administrator who was a civil servant minister in princely Mysore and was later Dewan of Gwalior. He was the maternal grandfather of TV journalist Sreenivasan Jain. M.A.Sreenivasan had also headed private sector companies. Prof.M.H.Krishna of the University of Mysore was among India’s great archaeologists. Sir S.P.Rajagopalachari was acting Dewan of Mysore and later Dewan of Gwalior. He was one of the founders of the Mysore State Cricket Association. Usha Sundarraj was national table tennis champion for years. She is the niece of M.Chinnaswamy, who was President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Tirumale Tatacharya Sharma was a well known journalist in Kannada and freedom figthter. Another Kannada journalist of note was Khadri Shamanna .Famous mathematicians of Mysore State were one Srinivasa Iyengar who died young while in Chicago, US, sometime in 1917 and Professors, M.T.Narayana Iyengar, K.S.K.Iyengar, P.N.J.Sharma and C.N.Srinivasa Iyengar. Famous botanists /zoologists included Prof.B.Sampath Kumaran, B.N.Seshachar and M.D.Parthasarathy . Also missing from your list is another giant of Kannada literature G.P.Rajarathnam and musicologist Ralapalle Ananthakrishna Sharma. .
